Accessing network share in NodeRED

I need Node-RED (running in UMH) to access XML files on a network share. The share is mounted on the Rocky Linux VM hosting UMH, but Node-RED cannot access it. Should I add a Persistent Volume (PV) and Persistent Volume Claim (PVC) to the UMH Helm chart for this, or is there a better way to configure access?

theoretically you would get to your result using your approach, but I would recommend using directly the protocol of the network drive (samba? ftp?) within nodered. this makes it less complex and prone to security issues
maybe @DanielH did something here already?

Ah yes, this should be an option. It's meant for file-watching, and I'm not sure if that would be working over FTP. I'm going to also try SMB; https://flows.nodered.org/node/node-red-contrib-smb2.5

@krgrsebastian @Mateusz maybe you also had some thoughts on this already?

I have not used samba direct in nodered. for the printer i use i am using samba but i created a custom docker for it. If the share is mounted on a linux host you should be able to access it via SSH. not sure if there is any nodered nodes for that.

i have use smb in nodered, works perfectly fine

@Luke van Enkhuizen did the node-red-contrib-smb2.5 work for you?

I have planned to work on this later today. Will report back ASAP 🙂
