We started out managing OT infrastructure like SCADA/OEE systems for customers in just the cloud, but many customers wanted us to either manage the whole infrastructure on premise for them, using severs or “hyperconverged” infrastructure, or – for what I’m asking about now – to manage edge hardware that does store and forward, local control fallback, etc. We’re trying to manage as far down the “stack” as possible (e.g., VMs, hypervisor, hardware) so customers don’t have to worry about it, which is where the software tools I mention above may come in.

Have you considered using the AWS IoT Greengrass service on the Edge Gateway server, @Deleted User ?

I had looked it a few years ago, but it seemed limited in what you could run locally, and we also have most of our customers running on Azure, so we want to be cloud-agnostic. Thanks for the recommendation, though!

Modern Greengrass is a decent solution, but it s as far from cloud-agnostic as possible 😉 Let me know if you need any AWS support in the future.

@Jermuk, for sure. As an MSP, the challenge for us is seeing how effectively we can manage the infrastructure below UMH (and less modern OT software) remotely and at scale. I’ll check out the doc link – thanks!
